What it is

Understanding pediatric chiropractic

Children are not small adults, and the technique changes accordingly. Pediatric work here is low force and specific, and a lot of it involves teen athletes who are growing quickly and loading their bodies hard at the same time.

Parents usually arrive with a specific question rather than a general one. We would rather answer that question honestly, including telling you when we do not think care is needed.

How it works

How children's care differs from adults'

Developing bodies take real physical stress from birth onward, and the technique has to reflect that rather than being a scaled-down adult adjustment.

Assess for the child's stage. What we look for in an infant, a school-age child and a growing teen athlete are three different things. The assessment is matched to where they are.

Gentle, non-forceful contact. Pediatric technique here is low force throughout. There is no thrusting of the kind an adult would recognize from their own visits.

Explain it to the parent. You stay in the room and you hear what we found. That includes being told plainly when we do not think care is needed.

What it helps

What families bring us

The reasons parents most often book, in the clinic's own words. These are the presentations they say they assist with.

  • Neck strain in infants following a difficult delivery
  • Infants who struggle to latch or who favor one side
  • Tension associated with colic, reflux and constipation
  • Restless sleep
  • Upper neck movement and ear drainage
  • Posture in school-age children
  • Growing teen athletes under training load
  • Sports injuries in children and teenagers

Common questions

Pediatric Chiropractic FAQs

Is it the same as adjusting an adult?

No. The technique is gentle and non-forceful, and it is scaled to the size and stage of the child. Parents are often surprised at how little there is to see.

Can I stay with my child?

Yes, and we would prefer it. You stay in the room for the whole visit.
